Safe, Affordable Housing
One of the major barriers to self-sufficiency is establishing safe housing. The greatest need of all Coburn Place participants is safe and affordable housing. All Coburn Place residents live in individual, fully-furnished apartment homes. Each apartment includes a kitchen, bathroom, bedroom(s) and living spaces designed for privacy and to promote independent living. Gas, electricity and water are included. The building and grounds are fenced in with access granted by a staff member 24/7.
During the first six months or CORE Phase, we provide all residents with access to Care, Opportunities, Resources and Empowerment services. Coburn Place does not charge rent during the CORE phase.
As residents move into the Self-Sufficiency Phase (months 7-24), we help prepare them for the responsibilities that come with independent living. Rent is assessed at an amount that never exceeds 30% of a resident’s income. Any money that is paid for housing costs (minus any damage or assessed fees) is returned to the resident upon exit from the program. This “nest egg” provides great assistance as they move into permanent housing.
