Coburn Place and the Indiana Community Development and Housing Authority (IHCDA) held a press conference in our third floor community room to announce our participation in and explain the IDA Tax Credit program.
Speakers included: Lianne Somerville, Coburn Place Executive Director; Claire Fiddian-Green, Richard M. Fairbanks Foundation, Inc. Grants Officer; Sherry Seiwart, IHCDA Executive Director; Representative John Day, IDA Supporter; Elizabeth Gibson, Coburn Place Board Chair.
Ms. Gibson closed with the following remarks:
"The IDA tax program is a win-win situation for our women and for those who contribute and receive tax advantages. It’s really something we hope people will get their hands around and take advantage of.
And finally, Coburn Place has been a leader in the domestic violence and transitional housing arena for more than ten years, and now we’re a leading advocate of economic education.
Personally, I believe that every person has the ability to turn their life around … but sometimes it takes a couple of things in order for that to happen. One thing that it may take is time. And what Coburn Place does is provide time, sometimes up to two years, for women and families to get themselves together to have the supportive services they need to really change their lives. Sometimes what they need is a little bit of help, and the IDA program is such a great tool that we’re happy to have to join us to provide the support and the time they need to get started on the right foot and truly become self-sufficient."
