Giving Sum members, Darrin Brooks (l) and Marty Posch (r), share their excitement with Lianne about our new partnership.

We are proud to be the recipient of Giving Sum’s first grant award. As the recipient of the inaugural grant, we will receive $50,000 toward a playground for the children of Coburn Place, as well as have the volunteer services of Giving Sum members for guidance and support in the development of the playground.
In addition, our partnership will provide innovative opportunities for Giving Sum members to contribute on multiple levels and will allow for a deeper connection than a simple monetary contribution. We are looking forward to working with the 100 members of Giving Sum and providing meaningful opportunities for them to serve families and the mission of Coburn Place.
“All of us at Coburn Place Safe Haven are thrilled to have 100 new partners to help us further our mission,” Executive Director Lianne Somerville said. “As the first recipient of the Giving Sum grant program, we will design and build a wonderful new playground for our families. Together with our new advocates, we have the opportunity to share the message that domestic violence is a public health issue that can be prevented. Abuse is a learned behavior that can be unlearned. Giving Sum members will help us spread the message that Coburn Place can help women transform their lives and become independent.”
Giving Sum President and Co-Founder Marty Posch said, “Coburn Place’s selection speaks volumes about their organization and vision given that they were selected from over 160 applicants. With so many worthy applicants, the differentiator was a combination of the innovative way they propose to engage our members, the impact on the community and the program's sustainability.”
