Coburn Place - A Home for the Holidays
Holiday/2008
Dear Friend,

No matter how you celebrate this season, there's no place like a home for the holidays.  A place to laugh, to make memories and to be grateful.  A safe space to gather with family and friends.  A home.  Your support of Coburn Place provides homes for women and children in desperate need of one each and every day of the year.  Now, more than ever, we need your help to ensure more families who need our services have safe homes.  Below, we share two stories from our home to yours.

Happy Holidays,
Coburn Place Staff
A new door - a new beginning
Coburn Place Apartment DoorJust a few weeks ago, "Sherry" and her five children fled Illinois to escape her abusive husband.  They left behind their family, their friends and their home.  When they arrived at Coburn Place, they moved into a beautifully decorated, completely furnished apartment - a new home.  With the help of staff, Sherry's three older children were immediately enrolled in school.  Her case manager helped her create an achievement plan of short- and long-term goals.  She also referred Sherry to no-cost medical treatment for injuries suffered at the hands of her husband.  And she introduced Sherry to a therapist, who will help her heal her emotional wounds

Because of Coburn Place and the people who support it, Sherry and her children have a safe home for the holidays.
A homecoming story

Last week, "Denise" completed our two-year program.  Through our economic education curriculum, she learned to budget, save and set goals.  As a result, she and her four young children moved into a new apartment - a home - just in time for the holidays.  Denise's case manager also helped her enroll in college, a life-long dream.  The counseling and support groups she participated in taught her how to avoid unhealthy relationships.  Her children transformed from timid and self-conscious to gregarious and self-confident with help from the counseling, support groups, homework assistance and other children's services they received.

The care, support and services offered by Coburn Place allowed the "Hamilton family" to move on, and move into their new home.
