Dear Friend,
October is Domestic Violence Awareness
month. In our
print newsletter (visit
our archive), we brought grim realities of
current domestic violence statistics, reasons why women stay
and heart-wrenching personal stories of abuse to you. In order to put an end
to this serious problem, it is necessary first to
educate.
The second step is to take action. Below, we share simple
but effective ways in which you can work to end domestic
violence.
Each of us can make an impact. Together we can make a
change. Everyone
deserves a safe home.
Won't you join us in working toward this
goal?
In Peace,

violence |
| Take action |
- Remember the Helpline
211. If someone you know needs help, options
are just a simple phone call away by dialing 2-1-1.
- Wear a purple
ribbon in honor of domestic violence
survivors. Let others know what it represents.
- Organize a domestic violence
awareness presentation by Coburn Place
staff for co-workers at a brown bag lunch or other event.
- Print and distribute safety plan
cards. Leave them in breakrooms,
restrooms or meeting rooms.
- Coordinate a drive of Coburn
Place's wish list items at your place of employment, church or social
club.
- Share your time and talent with
us through one of our many volunteer
opportunities.
- Contact
your public leaders to take a strong
stand against domestic violence.
- Shop Designers'
Closet and help us raise funds to provide services
and support to domestic abuse survivors. Look
for a valuable coupon below!
- Bring your old cell
phones to us. We receive money
for all phones which are refurbished or disposed
of in an environmentally proper way.
- Share this information with a friend
by clicking on the
"Forward email" link at the
bottom of the page.
(Call our office 923-5750 for materials or more
information.)

you spent that little to look this good!

"Girls' Night
in" created awareness and everbody had
fun
|
|
October is a great
time to plan an indoor event while sharing awareness of Coburn
Place. Board member, Heather Moss, and her sister, Jennifer
Bergman, did just that. She and her friends held a
"Girls' Night IN!"
Friends gathered, hors d'oeuvres were served, and
info on Coburn Place was shared. The money the women would
have spent going out was donated to Coburn Place
instead. They raised more than $1500!
Heather, a domestic violence consultant, thinks it's a
win-win situation. If YOU would like to hold your
own event and would like Coburn Place items (such as
brochures, envelopes, etc.) just let us know! Contact Mary
Jane Sorbera at maryjane@coburnplace.org or 923-5750.
