Dear Friend,
Fall is in the air and our thoughts start turning toward home - settling in and preparing for winter. Home is where we find safety, comfort and rejuvenation. The housing component of our program is really about providing a home for women and children who desperately need one.
Just in case you feel like heading out, we have a fun opportunity to get in the Halloween spirit and support Coburn Place at the same. "Thrill the World" and get your zombie on!
The problem of domestic violence seems so overwhelming, but there are plenty of small but important things you can do to help stop DV. We'll share one with you each edition.
Peace,
Coburn Place Staff

What We Do: HOUSING

Homes to heal

A Coburn Place living room
|
Over the years, we've seen more than 1300 women and children walk through our doors! Housing is the one service we offer that everyone who comes to Coburn Place needs. We strive to not only put a roof over their heads, but to create a home for them to feel safe and secure.
Our building (the former IPS #66 Henry P. Coburn) was repurposed to house 35 families in individual, private apartment homes. Also on-site are wonderful amenities and quick access to staff offices, private meeting spaces, a large community room, a kids' area, two computer labs, a laundry room, a fitness center, a playground and a peace garden - all inside the security of our gated and walled property. Each family moves into a fully-furnished apartment with a kitchen, bathroom, bedrooms and living spaces. We rely on donations from the community to furnish our apartment homes. Our wish list is updated frequently and highlights our most-needed items. We also rely on volunteers to set-up apartments so that they feel like homes. When visitors first arrive at Coburn Place, they are surprised by the beauty of our building. Its care is entrusted to our Operations Department that handles everything from performing routine maintenance and cleaning common areas to fixing broken dishwashers and helping families secure permanent housing.

In honor of Domestic Violence Awareness Month, which happens each October, we started a special campaign on Facebook to get people talking. We Believe - The Faces of Support is an album of people who believe "everyone deserves a safe home", which is our tagline.
We would love to add your picture holding your own sign. Send it to us through Facebook or email (lisa@coburnplace.org), and show your support today!
